----- Killua was born into the Zaoldyeck family, well known assassins, bodyguards and information collectors living near Romania.
From an early age, Killua was taught various necessities of the trade, ranging from learning self-defense using various styles of fighting (some perfected, others merely incorporated into base styles), wilderness survival, first-aid, poison knowledge, and a large handful of other useful skills.
At around the age of ten, Killua was tossed out of the house in order to continue to teach him how to defend as well as take care of himself. For this purpose, he was given a small, slightly run-down shack on the Zaoldyeck estate in which to learn.
For a full year, Killua stayed in the shack and lived off of his own resourcefulness, although unknown to him, he was continually being watched in case he fell into severe trouble.
From age eleven to twelve Killua was sent on various missions with members of his family, learning more from a hands-on approach how to run the family business.
However, after a year of this, Killua began to long to see how the "real world" worked, and finally convinced his father to allow him to move several towns over and attend school there. Although his family handled expenses for food, room, clothes, etc., Killua was again left to his own resources on dealing with all day-to-day matters.
It is here that Killua managed to meet a handful of friends of which he learned various things with, mostly in the way of interaction and friendship.
At around fifteen, Killua was again brought home to assist in family affairs, although he had continued to run assistance in-between when needed. Intended to move back home until college, a little supposed "accident" ended up causing a change of plans, and he was instead sent off to White Ridge High School.
Killua has a rocky relationship with a large portion of his family relating to the choices he has made in life, especially the one in which he decided to have friends.
On the issue of friends, his eldest brother (Illumi), his Mother and Younger Sister (who is hardly ever seen apart from her Mother) find him foolish, with his Mother thinking it means he will never return to the family, and instead thinking he will try to stay as a normal person. Illumi just thinks it will make him weak, and distract him.
On the opposite end, his father (Silver) and grandfather (Xeno) see Killua's determination to break away as a part of his growth, and that it will merely make him stronger. They figure, in the end, Killua will not be able to escape the chains of his family's career and history.
